When Your Life is interrupted by caring for an aging parent

Our Journey

As we were starting down the path of creating Riff on Jobs, and meeting regularly, we found ourselves frequently derailed by our individual responsibilities related to caring for our aging parents. We were dealing with home safety enhancements, evolving living situations, falls, grocery shopping, doctor visits, and a wealth of other issues related to caring for our parents and in-laws. We shared information, researched, compared notes, and commiserated. In the end, we realized that everything we had learned and experienced could be helpful to other people, especially those over fifty, who find themselves unwittingly thrust into the role of caring for their parents. With that, the Survival Guide to Caring for Aging Parents was born. This is our first book and we are very excited to share it with you.

Driven by passion

We believe in family and honoring our parents, despite any mistakes they may have made raising us. We are all human, and no one should suffer in old age just because it gets harder to do things on one’s own. We also believe that no one should lose themselves in the process of caring for parents. We created this guide so people could live their best life while helping their parents do the same.

READER REVIEWS

This is one of the most practical and grounded books I’ve come across on caring for aging parents. It doesn’t deal in theory—it gives clear, real-world guidance you can actually use.

I picked up Survival Guide to Caring for Aging Parents because helping older parents can feel confusing and stressful. I liked that this book didn’t try to make everything sound easy. It talks about real things like healthcare choices, money concerns, and finding the right living options. The book felt more like a calm friend sharing helpful advice instead of someone giving orders. If you are caring for a parent or know you may need to someday, this book gives you a place to start.

Survival Guide to Caring for Aging Parents is one of those rare books that manages to be both practical and deeply compassionate. It blends practical advice with emotional insight, helping caregivers feel less overwhelmed and more prepared. It offers clear guidance and step-by-step strategies that make a difficult period feel manageable. The guidance is straightforward, realistic … a reassuring companion for anyone navigating the challenges of supporting aging parents.
